Currently there are no term limits on either. I am certain the founding fathers considered these temporary appointments and were expecting new and different thinkers to be cycling through those offices. Not keeping the same single minded point of view. When an area develops it brings more and different people in, so why would you have to keep someone in that doesn't reflect the modern constituents?
