A cascade of recent evidence suggests that teenagers are generally sleep-deprived, directly leading to health problems such as obesity and depression. Additionally, differences from adults in their circadian rhythms make teenagers hard-wired to wake no earlier than 8:00 am, but high school students are required in some places to be at bus stops as early as 5:45 am. A shift to later school start times, ideally 9:00 am, would not harm anyone or make school administration more costly in any way, and would help remedy what is essentially a public health issue. This is nonpartisan common sense.
