There is no chance that fundamental extremist Muslims will not be in the refugee population. Any attempt to bring these people into the country will result in many attempting to escape to kill and pillage our way of life. Granted we cant just do nothing, so...
Why not just ship these people to one or more than one of the many naval pacific islands we have throughout the pacific. Surrounded by water, there is no risk to our people and we can save many of these people from war. Then when Syria is at peace we can ship them back without a single worry.
