For-profit prisons are draining financial resources, while at the same time, influencing lawmakers to put more Americans in jail for longer periods of time - not to make the country safer or for any reason of justice, but to increase their profits at the cost of the taxpayers.
Shutting down the for-profit industry would both save money, and remove one of the motives to keep Americans who pose no threat to their neighbors locked behind bars.
