The only thing that street cleaners do to the trash on the curbs is turn it into wet trash. Street cleaning is pointless. The alternate-side parking laws associated with it are pointless, except to generate money for the government via parking tickets issued to citizens parked on the wrong side of the street.
I propose, instead, to eliminate street cleaners entirely. In their place, we will implement a taxpayer-funded program that encourages citizens to go outside and sweep up their own streets. Everyone wins.
1) The government still gets money.
2) No one has to pay any more alternate side parking tickets.
3) No more foul, noisy street cleaners.
4) The streets will actually be clean.
