The 1st Helicopter Squadron out of Joint Base Andrews no longer has a mission profile that supports its existence. Its primary role of providing support to DoD contingency plans for transport of key government officials is met by other local squadrons as are its secondary missions of VIP flights, medical evacuations, and search-and-rescue assistance.
It's operational habit of flying low and over densely populated urban areas during the day and night as well as the flagrant disregard of common FAA operational guidelines for these areas calls into question the flight parameters the squadron uses. It is a perfect example of government activity that is no longer needed but continues to be funded regardless. Please insist that Congress eliminate funding for this example of government waste.
