Sign an executive order for the removal of cannabis from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act and end prohibition

Created by J.W. on October 29, 2014

This nation learned long ago that prohibiting a widely used and widely popular substance just doesn't work. It doesn't eliminate use of the substance; it simply ensures that the substance is sold by criminal actors in an underground market. In many ways, the prohibition of marijuana makes even less sense than the prohibition of alcohol.

The bottom line is that it doesn't make sense to punish adults who choose to use marijuana instead of alcohol. And these adults should be able to purchase marijuana safely from regulated businesses -- which would generate tax revenues -- rather than in an underground market. It is time to regulate marijuana like alcohol on both the state and federal levels.
