Sign an Executive Order to require that all funds for Presidential inaugurations come from private donations.

Created by W.F. on January 21, 2013

Inaugurations cost too much of our tax dollars. While the peaceful transfer of power should be celebrated, taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for this gargantuan, partisan display.
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) pays for the swearing-in ceremony and the Congressional luncheon. They have a total budget of $1.237 million, (down by about $163,000 from 2009.) American taxpayers foot the bill for the JCCIC. Also, the federal government will spend another $75 million to reimburse Virginia and Maryland for inauguration services.
Let's help balance the federal budget by eliminating spending on this non-essential. From now on, let private citizens and the winning political party pay entirely for their self-congratulatory spectacle.
