When law enforcement officers at the city, county, and state levels fire their weapons in the line-of-duty, the Federal Bureau of Investigations should conduct independent investigations into the circumstances surrounding these shootings to ensure that such investigations are handled in a transparent manner that results in accountability. Due to the incestuous relationships often found between district attorneys, police departments, sheriff departments, and state investigatory bureaus, federal intervention is required to prevent the police from investigating their own potential crimes.
