Mass shootings as have occurred at schools, movie theaters, malls, and churches in recent years happen in part because the perpetrators desire to gain notoriety through the press their heinous acts generate. The media makes the names and faces of the perpetrators widely recognizable. This petition asks President Obama to take action to remove from public record the names and images mass murderers, such as Adam Lanza, and to criminalize henceforth any act of sharing their names and images. Such action taken by the President will remove the incentive of gaining notoriety for anyone in the future and help protect innocent American citizens.
