The President should sign an Executive Order directing that elected Federal officials in the Legislative and Executive branches will lose their salaries and benefits for themselves and their families if Congress fails to:
* Authorize an increase in the debt ceiling sufficient to forestall the government going into default, or
* Resolve the remaining automatic cuts to defense and domestic spending from the sequester by March 2013.
Salaries and benefits are to be suspended until the necessary legislation is passed. The salaries will not be restored retroactively.
