Attorney General Eric Holder stated:
“Does the president have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil? The answer to that question is no.”
This overly-specific statement leaves far too many loopholes; one must simply not aim at a U.S. citizen, or not be on U.S. soil, or declare the target as hostile; or just have the person making the call not be the President.
We don't want to live in a world where armed drones routinely fly above every neighborhood, ready to strike at anyone they suspect to be hostile. The flying of armed drones on American soil should be rare enough that a warrant ought to be required each and every time.
We request that President Obama sign an Executive Order, then work with Congress to make this law.
