In a hopeful effort to decrease political stagnation, bickering, and pandering to special interests; we the undersigned submit this petition, asking that a motion is put into force that forbids a member of Congress from serving in a term of more than 5 years.
This would only affect those elected officials serving in the Legislative branch of our federal Government, namely the Senate and House of Representatives, and will have no bearing on any other office, be it local, state or federal.
5 years will be the whole of the Congressional term; it may be served in any way the official chooses. However after their term ends, they must step down and a successor will be chosen via a public election. After completion, they can never again serve in an elected Congressional office.
