The Ottawa Treaty was proposed by the U.N. and was used to ban the stockpiling, use, and transfer of landmines. Unlike most military weapons, landmines can maim and kill years and years after a war has finished. These deplorable and disgusting devices of war continue to cause pain and suffering all over the world, and this suffering could cease within a generation or two if we just flat out stop making them completely. This isn't a question of left wing or right wing, but a choice between human suffering or an easy end to that suffering.
