America's marriage tax penalty should be illegal. Did you know it is currently legal for the government to make a married individual pay more in taxes - in many cases thousands of dollars per year - for the same exact income they would have earned single?
Today's outdated tax policies were set up to incentivize couples to marry and for one partner - which is most often the woman - to stay home to take care of the child. These policies are outdated and sexist. It is also important to note that "married, filing separately" is not the same as filing single, and still costs much more than a single filer. This should be outlawed.
We ask the White House to allow married filers to file as "Single" to end the sexist and archaic marriage tax penalty.
