While the Obama administration has generally done a good job with website they have control over, there is a lot of work left to do.
Some suggestions for improvement:
- Require all government websites to describe clearly what agency/authority is hosting them and where that agency's funding is derived. Have them describe what departments, if any, they are inside of.
- Create a centralized repository to easily track, search, and read all legislation (especially legislation that is still pending).
- Create a user-friendly directory of all government websites (USA.gov is terrible). This can also be a teaching tool to help people to discover how the government is organized.
- Create a set of technical and aesthetic standards for government websites to follow, including mobile support.
