This is a petition requesting a change to the way taxes are filed. Currently, taxpayers spend an undue amount of time and money completing forms that contain data that the IRS already has. Instead, the IRS should complete its own forms using the taxpayer data that it receives from employers, banks, and other financial institutions. The IRS can then send the completed tax document to the taxpayer for approval. The taxpayer merely need to review and sign the document to approve it, or make any necessary changes. This method would save most taxpayers time and money, has been tested in California, is used in several other countries, and is the model that states use to collect automobile-registration fees.
