Social security disability should be treated like tax deductions: accepted automatically but subject to audit.

Created by R.G. on July 12, 2015

Social security disability payments should be treated like taxes. With taxes you just apply and get your deduction automatically, then audits enforce honesty and compliance. So let's use the existing social security disability infrastructure to audit disability claims instead of making people wait years in poverty for the system to get around to them. The human cost is too high.

The current system where budgets push people into waiting for years violates the civil and human rights of the disabled. Those with income get their deductions and tax refunds immediately, with possibility of later audit. The same should be true for the disabled. Unequal treatment is a violation of civil rights. Thereby forcing disabled people into severe poverty is a violation of human rights.
