All to often when natural disasters occur, we are left without power for days on end. Hospitals, nursing homes, public safety buildings (police departments, sheriffs offices, fire departments, 911 dispatch, etc.) have to rely on gas powered generators as a means of generating electricity. However, if we were to install solar panels (or like technologies) we would be to keep the power on and without the added expense of gasoline to power generators. These institutions would be able to continue to function with down power lines.
Once the back up batteries were charged at capacity the remainder could be sold back to the grid. This would create a revenue source for the hospital, nursing home, or local public safety buildings once the infrastructure upgrades were paid for.
