CA soldiers who received, what has since been deemed inappropriately high, reenlistment signing bonuses are being forced to return them, with interest even. This is an unacceptable example of how little we respect and honor our veterans! Their time served cannot be refunded. The additional horrors they saw cannot be unseen. The lives of those who loved them, that were impacted by their soldier being deployed and the stress and worry of that experience, not to mention the missing of their loved one in so many important moments of life at home, cannot be undone.
The responsibility of these signing bonuses is on the establishment, not the veterans. The only people who should ever have to repay a signing bonus are the ones who do not show up! It was a contract and they upheld their end.
