Gerrymandering is the act of redrawing population lines to make for safer elections for politicians. if everyone in an area is voting for you because you drew the lines that way, you have a gurenteed seat in congress for the next election. this is not democracy, this is politicians looking for job security. it undermines the importance of your vote and, as our country is by the people for the people, this is vehemently wrong.
