Due to the severe differences between New York City metropolitan area and the rest of the state, We The People petition that this region be separated from the rest of the state. To preserve the voice of the residents of New York State, we ask that NYC, long island, and the surrounding area be separated from NY state and either become the 51st state or be annexed to a more similar state.
We ask for this change because of the radical differences between this region and the rest of NY which work to place the best interests of the region in conflict with the best interests of the rest of NY. Differences such as:
Population density
Median income
Environmental concerns
Tax burden
With the current arrangement, NYC and the rest of the state both suffer from having only half of the state's votes
