Whether we like it or not, the growing threat of ISIS is a major threat to the Iraqi people. US options remain limited by a war-weary populace.
However, the growth of ISIS presents an opportunity for the US to improve relations with Middle-Eastern regional powers. Syria, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Israel are all threatened by the ISIS threat alike. They are a common enemy to everyone in the region.
Sometimes, it takes a common enemy to unite us all. Recognizing the universal threat of ISIS and holding high-level talks with all regional powers (Iran and Syria included) is the right thing to do.
Let us prove to the world that the US is a professional and practical country. I'm not asking for "support" of Iran, but simply a recognition that we all face a common enemy.
