Speak out against media glorification of perpetrators of mass shooting and similar acts of violence.

Continued media veneration of mass killers encourages more mass killings.
As evidenced by blog postings of the perpetrator of the Umpqua Community College slaughter in Sept. 2015, notoriety is a motivating factor in the lives of these desperate and broken souls. Perhaps if these troubled minds could not count on the reward of posthumous fame they might not decide to seek it through mass violence. But as things stand currently, the surest way for a disturbed person with a grudge or manifesto to gain a national airing of their grievances is to kill as many of their fellow citizens as they can. As the Umpqua killer noted in an August blog post, "the more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight."
We urge the White House to condemn media outlets that glorify mass killers.
