State Republican parties in some blue states have initiated plans to allocate Electoral College votes in presidential elections by heavily gerrymandered congressional districts. If, before November 2012, their plans had been passed (in all states where they are trying) Mitt Romney would be our President-Elect, despite the fact that he lost by more than 3 million votes in the popular vote. This would essentially turn the Presidency into a GOP-owned institution, with a Democrat only being able to win in a huge landslide. Together with the profoundly antidemocratic House district gerrymandering, this constitutes a War on Democracy, and President Obama must do what he can to protect our Republic!
