Individuals with Asperger's (Aspies) commonly feel discriminated against. Aspergers is not a disease or a disorder but rather a neurobiological difference. We aspies are different from non-aspies in that our personalities are characterized by narrow but deep interests such as an intense preoccupation with subjects like Biology or History, a lack of social grace with non-aspies, sensitivities to various sensory stimuli, and also have a proclivity to interpreting things literally instead of relying on figurative interpretation.
We aspies do not view the above as weaknesses but rather differences to be valued. And we demand our accorded human rights to be represented, not medicalized, not dehumanized, and not discriminated against
