specifically promote STEM education by saving the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at UF.

Created by J.T. on April 26, 2012

Recently, the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Florida has submitted a budget proposal to eliminate the CISE department due to budget constraints. While other universities are creating full-size colleges for computer science, UF is making plans to get rid of the department by merging it with the hardware-oriented Electrical & Computer Engineering, removing all TA positions, and deterring research professors from pushing the field forward by forcing them to give lectures and grade papers.

President Obama, you told us that America has twice as many STEM openings as people who can fill them in your SotU Address; "it's inexcusable." Please back up your words with action as you call on FL legislators and UF administrators to save and fund this most crucial department.
