With the political split of the current country at 50/50, there is currently no progress being made on important issues in congress, such as immigration, taxes, spending, equal rights, and minimum wage.
I propose that we split the current country in a straight line vertically with Arkansas and Oklahoma being two of the border states.
The liberal West could have Texas, California, and all the states between. While the conservative East would have Florida and New York. Both countries would have equal farmland and an ocean coast.
There would be a 3-5 year waiting period while the countries design their new governments, and this would give ample time for the people to move to the country of their choice.
West US would have an open border policy with Mexico. East US wouldn't have a border.
