Sponsor a Federal Law Supporting Breastfeeding

Created by A.B. on November 06, 2015

Most states protect mothers' rights to breastfeed in public, yet women are harassed and hounded for doing so. State laws vary and few have any enforcement to stop people from harassing moms, demanding they stop, cover up, or go feed their children in a bathroom.

Breastfeeding is feeding a child, and all children have the right to eat when and where they are hungry. A federal law protecting the right of mothers to breastfeed their children in public and the right of babies to eat in public would end the patchwork of state laws.

Providing a consequence for those harassing moms would also help--no more moms being thrown off buses, driven out of restaurants, and having security called on them for meeting their children's needs.
