In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, a profile is beginning to emerge of the person behind this horrible crime. An overarching lack of empathy seems to be a major factor here. It is possible that as a part of broader personality testing, we begin to identify people with potentially pathological lack of empathy, and treat them accordingly through well conceived therapy and socialization methods. I am not a heath care professional, so I would invite anyone with more knowledge on this subject to contribute. It just struck me that perhaps identifying these dissociative personalities early on in life can allow for more structured and compassionate treatment of them, which may ultimately prevent them from acting out violently against themselves and others.
