Only a handful of states have legislation that prevents the discrimination of domestic abuse victims in the workplace. A study conducted by Legal Aid Society – Employment Law Center’s Project SURVIVE, last accessed on October 10th, 2013, found that nearly 40 percent of survivors were fired or feared termination because of domestic violence. In addition, Futures Without Violence, an organization that spreads domestic abuse awareness, found that three-fourths of employed battered women were harassed by their partner at work. We must protect domestic violence victims in the work force because being a victim shouldn’t mean being unemployed.
