On July 27th, 2010 I was widowed at 29 years old.
Much to my surprise my job was not protected under any bereavement laws.
My job wasn’t even protected under the current FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) rules and regulations.
I am currently petitioning congress to change the rules and regulations on FMLA to cover the death of a spouse.
I am asking congress for one simple thing.. 12 weeks of UNPAID leave for death of a spouse.
We have the right to grieve. We have the right to take care of our grieving children. We have the right to get our financial offers in order.
I believe during the grieving process our jobs should be protected.
