The United States uses a scheduling system to organize drugs by their legality. Certain criteria must be met by a drug in order for it to be placed in a particular schedule. However, there are currently drugs present in schedule 1 that do not meet such requirements, or, there is no proof that they meet such requirements. We petition the US government to change legislation regarding the process by which drugs are scheduled. There should be clinical trials required and comprehensive analysis of a drug in question, proving that it has more detrimental effects on self and society than regulated substances such as alcohol and tobacco. "Potential for abuse" and "lack of accepted medical value," should be made immaterial, as regulated substances meet these criteria yet are unscheduled.
