On 11/16, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system. This will allow the government to block service to websites because of copyright infringement by users. In other words, one person uploads copyrighted content to Youtube, and the site goes down. Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter could be gone by 2012.
It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.
In other words, this is the American answer to the Great Firewall of China. The Obama administration needs to stand against this in the name of free speech and human rights, both of which are at stake in this power grab over the internet.
