The US needs to make a strong stand with the international community against the human rights abuses being perpetrated in Russia. Under the ban on "gay propaganda", the Russian government is systematically persecuting their own people and encouraging vigilante violence against them. They have made clear that all Olympic participants will also be in danger under the ban, a vague, all encompassing charge being used to persecute at random. To ignore this atrocity endangers what little moral authority our country still commands; it will be completely lost if we remain silent. A threatened boycott of the Sochi Olympics is the most powerful leverage, and only reasonable recourse available.
