The president has constantly caved in to Republican demands over the past four years. Republicans have stated publicly that they want cuts to Social Security as part of a increase in the debt ceiling negotiations. The president has hinted he will offer Social Security cuts as a bargaining chip, and has done this on two previous occasions in hopes of a grand bargain with Republicans.
