Mr. President, during your State of the Union Address, you said, “Citizenship means standing up for everyone’s right to vote.” “Citizenship demands a sense of common cause; participation in the hard work of self-government; an obligation to serve our communities.”
We agree.
Residents of the District of Columbia support the federal government with taxes, honor service, work hard, and respect the right to vote. It is time to stand up for the right to vote for the people of the District.
It is unconscionable members of America’s armed forces from the District risk their lives to defend democracy for people around the world, only to be denied full Congressional representation when they come home.
The people of the District deserve full voting rights and the District deserves statehood.
