Over 75 U.S and Canadian scientists have already contacted President Obama to ask him to preserve what is left of North America's old-growth forest. (http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/scientists-obama-protect-grow...)
We can show both the scientists and Mr. Obama that they are not alone in this request, and that people are willing to put a rare and diminishing resource before profits that could come from somewhere else.
There is a way forward for both the timber companies to maintain their profits through proper stewardship of already cut land, and still preserve the little remaining old-growth forest. It would be a foolish misuse of an opportunity to preserve something irreplaceable for future generations just to sacrifice that for some profit now.
