Many states are adopting creationist textbooks in their public school systems and by doing so they are doing their students a disservice. Creationism is based on faith and not science and thus, has no place in a secular classroom. Students who espouse creationist ideas will not be taken seriously by mainstream science when they get to higher levels of education. This hampers their ability to compete nationally and globally. In addition, it is likely that some states would likely teach a different history based on their own historical and political prejudices. I propose that the federal government should be in control of the content of public school textbooks nationwide so that all students across the nation are on the same page.
