standardize salaries or Senators and Congressmen, at 10% above the average household income of their constituency.

Created by J.J. on December 31, 2012

Congressmen and Senators make an extraordinary amount of money, Both make more than $150,000 a year. There are 200 senators and 435 voting members of congress.

Senators and Congressmen are elected representatives; people we chose to represent us in the government. Such is the nature of a republic.

But do they represent us? How can they? They live a world apart. They receive higher pay than most of their constituency, and see their seat as a place of power as opposed to as place of service.

I would propose that ALL elected members of the House of Representatives receive a salary equivalent to 10% more than the gross average of the district they represent.

Serving should be a responsibility, not a luxury.
