Start fixing social inequalities by implementing emotional and social education in public schools

Created by B.F. on January 02, 2013

Affirmative Action and similar programs perpetuate inequality by addressing the effect instead of the cause. Implementing social emotional learning (SEL) in public schools K-12 would address many of the causes of inequality by providing a more level playing field for our nations youth from all backgrounds. This type of learning empowers children with self confidence and a feeling of entitlement which encourages learning on the part of the student and promotes democratic society.

I urge the administration and policy makers to read the books Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence by Daniel Goleman.
