Don't give in to the war machine. Instead use half of the current military budget to fund the planning and construction of an international base on the surface of Mars. The technologies that would have to be produced to make such a venture plausible would benefit humanity immensely. Cleaner, more efficient energy and waste processing, more efficient propulsion technologies, and possibly even small scale terra-forming would all be extremely useful capabilities right here on earth. Neil Armstrong took one small step for man, and it is now time to get started on mankind's next great leap!
