Organized religion saves approximately $50-$70 billion per year in the USA depending on the source.
Let's tax religion and use that money elsewhere. There are numerous areas in the US that need funds drastically. Whether it be rebuilding our infrastructure, helping those in need, helping pay down the student debt to invest in our future generations, providing all citizens with healthcare or paying for social programs some in the government want to cut, just to name a few.
I suggest allowing tax exemptions only for properties or establishments that can prove they are offering some form of charity, such as a soup kitchen, a homeless shelter, and so forth.
