Email is rapidly becoming the primary means of written communication in this country. We believe that our emails will remain private and confidential, and through email we exchange letters, intellectual property, school grades, tax returns, insurance documents, and other private correspondence with our doctors and loved ones.
Tampering with USPS mail is a federal offense. Why are our emails not treated with the same level of government protection? The USPS should create a secure federal email system that mirrors the protections afforded to paper mail. This system will: Revitalize and streamline the USPS, help the environment, and protect our privacy as citizens. We must embrace inevitable movements in technology while maintaining the rights extended to us since the start of the USPS.
