Asperger Syndrome is a pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). Asperger Syndrome was not added in the Diagnostic Manual until the 1990's. Therefore the department of corrections needs to better identify inmates inside the state and federal prison with this disorder.
Inmates with Asperger Syndrome are often harrased and punished for manifestations of a neurological disability.
The families of inmates with Asperger Syndrome should have a fundamental right to assist a love one who resides inside the correctional institution with requests for disability accommodations and processes relating to grievances. The states attorney general should allow immediate family members of the inmate assist in these type of due processess..
