A plan is currently being introduced in the senate to add up to 20,000 more border patrol agents at the US-Mexico border, meaning agents may be stationed every 1,000 feet along the border.
Instead of hiring new agents, thus raising the already high cost of border patrol, we should use the returning troops from the Middle East to man the border. Over 30,000 troops are returning from Afghanistan, with tens of thousands more set to return in the coming years. These soldiers, who are already employed by the United States government, would be a great way to add security to the border, at no additional cost.
By stationing military troops at the border, security will be increased, as well as employment for our soldiers. Please consider this proposal as a solution to our border security.
