United States Is The Only First-World Country Without Mandatory Paid Maternity Leave.
Canada offers 50 weeks, Norway 44 weeks, Italy 22 and so on. Even South Africa and Pakistan rank ahead at 12 weeks of mandatory paid maternity leave. New working mothers in the United States are almost always without pay for the first few months of their child's life and are frequently left without a job to come back to.
This has become most certainly a human rights issue and a social issue. Children need love, nurture and bonding and it all begins the moment the child is born.
In the wake of the tragic Sandy Hook event, it is all the more compelling to push for this right every parent should have. Parents need time and support to raise good, healthy citizens. Please vote .. it matters!
