STOCK Act Reintroduced to Ban Insider Trading by Members of Congress (Senate & House)

Created by M.I. on November 14, 2011

Several representatives have introduced bills over the years that would prohibit members of Congress and federal employees from profiting, or helping others to profit, from non-public information—primarily through stock and futures trading—gleaned through their access to privileged, political-based information.

Government employees, specifically but not limited to Congress, need to be held to the same level as the private sector. If individuals in the private sector were to use inside information, they would go to prison.

Members of Congress need to freeze all of their accounts and not access them until 24 months after leaving office or their term ends.
