Stop the 5 month wait period for Social Security Disability to begin issuing benefits.

Created by D.W. on February 17, 2014

From the initial application date for Social Security disability there is a 5 month wait to receive a benefit payment. When you are approved the benefits begin in the sixth month with no back benefits being paid. With patient records available at the click of a mouse I do not understand why it takes so long. We knew the day my 60 year old husband was diagnosed with lung cancer he would be unable to return to his job in concrete construction. We knew it would be a long time before he would be able to work again....if ever. One of the toughest times in our families lives was made even worse due to the sudden stop of his income. I am sure we are not the only family that this has hurt. The policies need to be reviewed and revised. Thank you.
