The criminal punishment for cruelty and abuse to companion "pets" is little more than a slap on the wrist. Small fines are not enough to deter multiple offenders. These "pets" are irreplaceable family members and should be treated as such. If these acts were done upon a human the punishments would be severe. We, the undersigned, seek to reform the criminal punishments for abuse, neglect, cruelty, and wrongful death to any companion animal. We seek to institute a permanent punishment/record for offenders and the loss of right to own such animals. These acts should be punishable at the federal level, enforcing guilty findings that result in felony prosecutions. It is time for the cruelty to stop. If they will do this to animals they will do it to humans!!
